Innovative mosquito control for a healthy future

The FKMCD – Oxitec Mosquito Project is a partnership between the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District and Oxitec, evaluating the effectiveness of Oxitec mosquitoes to control the invasive, disease-spreading Aedes aegypti mosquito in the Florida Keys.

With thanks to the continuing support of local residents and EPA approval, the project began its third season in Spring 2023.

This project is overseen by FKMCD, the EPA and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). Independent evaluation of the project is provided by the University of Florida, Monroe County Department of Health, and local leaders, forming a broad and diverse coalition to support this effort.
